January Dances

Lindy has been teaching two Romanian dances.  Dansul Fetelor din Bilca is the easier one.  It was taught at Mountain Playshop by Christian and Sonia,

Hora Lautereasca is the other Romanian dance that Lindy was teaching this month. The link below is Dunav performing the dance.

Or you could follow the link below to find out more information about the music and some groups that have performed the song.

Bill taught Lissavo which he learned from Kyriakos Moisidis.  Below are the notes for the dance.

It is a fun dance that reminds one of "Sofka".

We had an afternoon of intermediate dancing this past Sunday.
Bill taught Incalcita, which means confusing or unclear, a dance from Bessarabia, The Republic of Moldova. Below is a link to the dance notes and a video.  We do it the same way they do it on the video.

Lindy taught Hora din Campie from Romania.  Below are notes from the Evansville group.
We do the dance the same as the following video.

Definitely, if you want a workout Incalcita is the dance for you. Follow it with Hora din Campie for a nice cool down!

5 Years and Going Strong!

It is hard to believe that we are going into our sixth year of the blog! It is even longer that I have been recording the weekly teaching of dances in our group!  Many have come and gone but the core group continues to spread the Joy!  Thank you!

I want to thank all of you that have shared your stories, music, dancing, and encouragement!

We are producing our third season of the program "Another Day, Another Dance!" for Charlottesville Public Access Television  http://cpatv.org/  and I can't wait to hear more stories of the impact of Folk Dancing on your life.

There are more groups publishing the dances that they do which is very informative.  It is always fun to see if other groups are doing the dances that we do and if they do them the same way that we do.

Thank you, All!
Keep dancing!

Mary Baldwin College Students

Last week it was great to have Irene Sarnelle and her students from Mary Baldwin College visit.  We always look forward to them dancing with us.  The young ladies brought their enthusiasm, energy, and knowledge of dance to brighten the evening.  They easily picked up the dances we taught. Every student danced almost every dance.

Also a credit to Irene's teaching,  she was taking her students to visit a local second grade class to teach them some dances.  Just as I say, "Share the joy, dance with a child!!"

Tom Masterson from Boulder, CO visited and taught a few dances.
Levan Polkka - performed here by a Finish Group which reintroduced it

but made a hit by Japanese Anime

Tom also taught Ana Visa, for which I couldn't find information. I did video Tom teaching the dance.

He also introduced Goralski from Poland.  Below are some notes on the dance.
